REDDING, Calif. -

Police are trying to figure out what caused a loud explosion in the area of Shasta View Drive and Castlewood Drive in Redding late Friday.

Investigators say they received numerous 911 calls just before 8:00 p.m. regarding a loud boom heard in the area. They say it was heard as far away as the area of Hartnell Avenue and Churcn Creek Road by both citizens and police officers working in the area.

When officers arrived in the area, a citizen reported a metal fragment in the driveway of a residence in the 4000 block of Tiffany Lane, which is believed to possibly be the base of a cylindrical carbon dioxide canister.

Police say they do not know if there were any injuries, and they do not have any victims, suspects, or additional fragments.

They also do not know if the explosion was intentional or accidental.

They are asking anyone with information to give them a call.
