The Shasta County Sheriff declared a state of emergency Saturday due to wildfires burning in the county.

The sheriff advised residents of Burney, California to prepare and be ready for evacuation. Firefighters have brought in more than 10 bull-dozers to create a fire line between the town and the fire. Officials at the scene said if this line does not hold, they may have to evacuate the town.

"The fire is moving quickly. Residents of these areas must take these preparatory advisements for evacuation seriously. Persons with disabilities, or others, may wish to evacuate voluntarily in advance," said the Shasta County Sheriff's Office in a press release.

Sheriff Tom Bosenko will present a request for local emergency declaration ratification by the Shasta County Board of Supervisors on or before Tuesday, August 5, 2014.
