A suspect claiming to be armed was nabbed in downtown Redding Tuesday morning.
Redding Police said 32-year-old Todd Robertson was caught not too far away from Gold Street Liquors, where he allegedly held up a cashier just after 8:30 a.m.
It turns out Robertson was never armed but he still managed to make off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
According to Gold Street Liquors' cashier at the time, Thomas Brewster, Robertson first came into the store looking to buy a cup of soup.
He left then later returned with a bag wrapped around his hand and demanded cash.
"He came back with a hood on, with the sunglasses on with the paper wrapped around his hand, he said get down on the ground. Get down on the ground...took the cash and ran," explained Brewster.
"You know everything happens in downtown, everybody is used to it," he continued.
With the increase in crime lately, the store's owner, Nikki Sondh, said businesses and people living in the area have to look out for each other.
"You have to have each other's back, you just have to. There's only so much Redding P.D. can do," said Sondh.
With the help of a CHP helicopter, Robertson was arrested in the area of California and Lincoln Streets.
He was booked into the Shasta County Jail on robbery charges, where he's held on $50,000 bail.
