RED BLUFF, Calif. -

Many questions remain in a double shooting case in that happened in Tehama County last week.

On Monday the Tehama County Sheriff's Office asked the public for leads.

Lieutenant Yvette Borden with the Tehama County Sheriff's Department said right now everything is pointing to the crime being a random crime of opportunity and an isolated case.

Borden said there have been no reported crimes in the area recently.

The Sheriff's Department is not releasing the name of the 76-year-old victim, a Manton man, who remains in critical condition, citing safety concerns.

Borden said it is unclear what was taken from the victims, personal information might be included and the department does not want to put anyone at risk.

"Throughout my career here at the Tehama County Sheriff's Department, which has been 20 plus years, I have not heard of another case that has happened on this trail or anything like it that has happened on this trail," Borden said.

"I mean it's very frightening," Borden admitted.

The Liuetenant said as of now her office has no reason to believe there's a serial robber or killer, working the trails.

"I absolutely believe this is a random incident that happened, I believe it was an opportunistic situation that happened and someone took advantage of that opportunity."

Why that area was targeted is unknown but for now the Sheriff's Department is stepping up patrols in the area.

Bureau of Land Management Rangers are increasing their presence as well.

Borden is asking anyone who might've been in the area to help out too, information is critical.

"What might be insignificant to them might lead us somewhere where we need to go and that we might not have information about."

Secret Witness is offering a $1,500 reward for information leading to an arrest.

The suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall white man 35 to 40 years old.

He is said to have dark hair and a mustache or beard.

He was last seen wearing dark jeans and a dark shirt.

Anyone with information should contact the Sheriff's Department.
