REDDING, Calif. -

A McArthur man was arrested Monday after allegedly firing his gun into the air because of traffic on the road in front of his home.

Thomas Cowan, 66, was taken into custody just before 4:00 p.m.

Dispatchers received several reports of a man walking along Lee Rd. firing a handgun into the air.

Deputies say they arrived and found Cowan, who was "extremely drunk" and carrying a .38 revolver. Cowan reportedly told deputies he was tired of Driscoll Farms employees driving too fast by his home and that he fired several shots in the air as they went past.

Deputies say they found several more guns in Cowan's home including a rifle that was reported stolen in the Bay Area in 1981.

Cowan was booked into the Shasta County jail on charges of negligent discharge of a firearm and displaying a firearm in a threatening manner. A charge of possession of stolen property will be submitted to the District Attorney's Office for review.
