Butte Board Tours Dispatch Centers

POSTED: 6:58 pm PDT July 26, 2010
The Butte County Board of Supervisors got an up close look this afternoon at the system that gets first responders to emergencies. Board members toured the public safety dispatch facilities at the Sheriff's Department and CalFire to get a better understanding of just how the complex system works. The system has seen several upgrades in recent years such as the ability to track the location of a 9-1-1 call made from a cell phone. But other issues were raised such as staffing shortages and an upcoming federal mandate that limits radio bandwidth which could make communication difficult in rural areas.
