Corning Council Discusses Part Time Agreements For City Manager, Police Chief
POSTED: 8:38 am PDT July 27, 2010UPDATED: 9:05 am PDT July 27, 2010CORNING, Calif. -- Corning's city council members are scheduled to discuss a plan to move the city's manager and police chief to part time at a meeting Tuesday evening. The discussion comes more than two months after council members split 2-2 on approving the plan.
If the agreements are accepted, City Manager Steve Kimbrough will retire, and then return to work at the the city under what is being called an "agreement for temporary city manager services." The move is expected to save the city $93,511 each year.
Under the second agreement, Police Chief Anthony Cardenas will also retire, and agree to return as a part-time city employee. His hourly wage would be $44.17. That change is expected to save the city approximately $106,619 each year.
If approved, Corning would be able to include the savings in its annual budget, which is scheduled for discussion immediately following the two agreements.
The discussion comes more than a month after the city council rejected a similar plan. That discussion took place on June 9, when the city council split 2-2 and was not able to approve a measure that would move the police chief and city manager to part time.
The meeting is scheduled to take place 7:30 Tuesday night at the Woodson Elementary gymnasium.
