Evans To Join Crowded Council Race
POSTED: 4:26 pm PDT July 27, 2010CHICO, Calif. -- One more candidate has thrown his hat into the ring for November’s City Council election in Chico.
Bob Evans announced his candidacy at a press conference Tuesday for one of the three open seats on the Council.
Evans cited a poor business climate in the city as his biggest reason for seeking election to the Council, calling for the city to ease regulations on employers and make a broad effort to recruit businesses.
He says decisions made by the current Council will only make the situation worse.
“If you look at the 20-year plan you’ll find that there’s more restrictions put on employers and more spending by the city that they have no way of paying for right now. So the 20-year plan in my view points to the fact that the council is not serious about getting jobs for our unemployed people,” said Evans.
Nine other people have taken out candidacy filing papers from the city, including incumbents Mary Flynn and Scott Gruendl.
