The jury has reached the verdict in the trial of a Shasta County man accused of a 22-year-old murder.

Brian Harper was found guilty of first degree murder Tuesday afternoon. However, jurors could not come to a decision on another special circumstance charge of rape.

Harper killed Judith Hasselstrom in 1988. Her body was found in an area of bamboo in Caldwell Park. The case was considered cold until investigators matched DNA evidence from a 2007 bank robbery to Harper and the killing.

Harper will be back in court September 10th for sentencing. He faces life in prison.
