The owners of Ashley Furniture Home Stores in Chico, Redding and Yuba City have issued a statement about why they shut their doors.

In a press statement released Thursday, Robert Meyers says the reason he closed his stores was because "our major creditor, Ashley Furniture Industries, took steps which made it impossible for us to continue to operate." Meyers went on to say that Ashley asked him to surrender assets, which he agreed to do on one condition, orders that had not been delivered needed to be.

The Ashley stores in Redding and Yuba City have already shut down, with the Chico location set to close at the end of September.

All three stores are under investigation by the California Attorney General's Office. The state began their investigation earlier this year after receiving numerous complaints from customers who said they never received furntiure they paid for.

KRCR News Channel 7 called Ashley Furniture's corporate office, but at the time of this publishing they have not returned our calls.
