According to the Tehama County Coroner's office, Cortney William Garrett, 24, of Red Bluff, was killed after he drove his truck off the freeway off-ramp and down an embankment around 2 a.m.
According to California Highway Patrol Sergeant Stephanie Drake, Garrett was wearing his seatbelt when the 1992 Toyota pickup went down the steep embankment. But despite the belt, Garrett was thrown approximately 100 feet.
He died at the scene, from what looked like blunt force trauma, Drake said.
There is no word yet on whether alcohol or drugs were a factor, but Drake did say there were not any other cars involved.
