UPDATED: Light Crowds on River Monday
POSTED: 4:32 pm PDT September 6, 2010UPDATED: 11:45 pm PDT September 6, 2010HAMILTON CITY, Calif. -- It was a much calmer day on the Sacramento River a day after 15,000 people took part in the annual Labor Day float.
Only about three hundred people were expected to make the trip between Irvine Finch Recreation Area and Scotty’s Landing Monday.
State Parks officials say crowds were slightly larger than last year but much smaller than when they peaked at 20,000 about five years ago.
One tuber says he had so much fun Sunday he came back Monday for another trip down the river.
“We were the first people to get to Beer Can Beach so we made a spot for ourselves you know. We spent about six hours yesterday and it was just crazy. So many people, so many tubes, but it was actually a pretty good day. We didn’t see any fights or anything like that. I had a blast,” said Ashton Khanchandani as he prepared to launch his inner tube at the Irvine Finch boat ramp this afternoon.
39 arrests, mostly alcohol related, were made Sunday. Three arrests were made on Saturday. No arrests were made Monday.
