CA State Parks Dept. Announces Closures
POSTED: 1:51 pm PDT May 13, 2011UPDATED: 2:16 pm PDT May 13, 2011California State Parks announced today their plan to close 70 of the 278 parks they operate due to budget cuts.The cuts are the result of Assembly Bill 95 passed in March. They will save a projected $11 million for the 2011-2012 fiscal period and $22 million for 2012-2013.Among the seventy to be closed, include such Northstate area parks as Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park, Castle Crags State Park, Shasta State Historic Park, and Woodson Bridge State Recreation area.Below is a full list of the closures:

After eleven days of investigation into the homicide of Cottonwood woman Karen Duenas, the Shasta County Sheriff's Office has named her husband Mark Duenas as a person of interest.

A Redding woman was hit by a truck, closing two lanes for about an hour on Churn Creek Road in Redding.

The victim Brad Capps, 37 of Cottonwood, fell 20 feet from a freeway overpass. Colleagues who witnessed the fall are being offered counseling.
