OROVILLE, Calif. -

Oroville Police have arrested a suspect accused of burglarizing and setting fire to two businesses and a church. Alex Butts, 32, of Oroville, was arrested Wednesday. He's held on $350,000 bail at the Butte County Jail.

The first incident happened December 19 at the Sierra Gem Company at 1390 Myers Street. Investigators say the fire was intentionally set to hide evidence of a burglary. The Sierra Gem Company suffered close to $1,000,000 in damage. Investigators developed information that Butts was the person responsible for the burglary and arson.

On February 20, firefighters responded to an arson at 1321 Robinson Street. The Unity Church had been burglarized and set on fire in several locations.

On Febuary 26, firefighters responded to a fire at Mission Hills Mortgage located at 479 Oro Dam Boulevard. Investigators determined the business had been burglarized then set on fire in multiple locations.

Wednesday a community service officer located Alex Butts and alerted police. After questioning, officers collected enough information to arrest Butts for all three of the burglary & arsons.
