(CNN) -- Real breakthroughs in Iran and on the Israeli-Palestinian issue would have a profound and positive impact on the entire Middle East and North Africa, President Barack Obama said Tuesday. The current situation in Egypt has demonstrated how difficult the process of transition to democracy is, he said. The United States will maintain a constructive relationship with Egypt's interim government but it has not gone ahead with some contracts, he said. Future U.S. support will depend on Egypt's progress in pursuing a more democratic path, he said. "We will be engaged with the region for the long haul," he said.
