University Preparatory School Makes National Ranking As Top School
Newsweek Magazine ranked U-Prep number 793 in the United States and 149 in California.
The rankings looked at school's student to teacher ratio, average college readiness and their API scores, or academic performance index scores on state-wide tests.
The 6th-12th grade school has over 850 students, significantly up from 250 when it first opened eight years ago.
"I think we offer a unique opportunity to come here in middle school and stay through high school and get a world class education," said the school's superintendent and principal Erin Stuart.
Stuart said the "Silver Medal" school also made the ranking back in 2010
The Charter School is the only in the area that offers Russian and Mandarin Chinese. Students are also required to take at least a year of Latin. U-Prep only offers Advanced Placement or honors courses, which Stuart said all students take to be on the college track.
Stuart said the high ranking doesn't mean the school will get more money from the state. However she said the high number will make the school look better when they apply for grants.
