REDDING, Calif. - Shasta County Supervisor Les Baugh and Redding City Manager Kurt Starman held a friendly competition at the Mt. Shasta Mall today.
The winner was the one who collected the most money for the Salvation Army.
The two are there kicking off a month long competition between the city of Redding and Shasta County to see who can raise the most money to donate.
Starman says the city has won every year for the past five or six years, but Baugh hopes to oust the champion this year.
"I always have hope," says Baugh. "This year we're going to wipe the city of Redding off the map."
But he admits that the county has never won the contest outright.
The competition will last until Christmas, with all money raised being donated directly to the Salvation Army.
To help either the city of Redding or Shasta County, you can donate to their Salvation Army bell ringers stationed throughout their respective territories.
