Bomb squad called after Redding man is injured by blast

REDDING, Calif. - An explosion in Redding brought the Shasta County Bomb Squad out Thursday night.

It happened at about 4:30 p.m. at a home on Chaparral Dr.

Nearby homes were evacuated while crews worked to clear the scene.

They responded to reports that a man in his 60s had his hand nearly severed in the blast.

Initial reports are that he had been working with some sort of rocket fuel. KRCR News Channel 7 is still working to confirm those reports.

The explosion also started a small fire which was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
