One person killed, five injured on Highway 299 crash

Bus collides with sedan

DOUGLAS CITY, Calif. - UPDATE: 6:45 a.m: The woman killed in Tuesday night's fatal crash between a sedan and a Trinity Transit bus has been identified as Priya Kaur Sandhu, 22, of Weaverville, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officials said she was driving a 2008 Honda Accord when it collided with a Trinity Transit bus. Baldish Kaur Sandhu, 50, of Weaverville, and a minor from Weaverville were in the car when it was hit and were transported to Mercy Medical Center to be treated for their injuries.

The CHP said Sandhu pulled into the Moon Lee Rest Area to make a U-turn. While pulling out onto Highway 299, the car collided with a Trinity Transit bus, that was carrying seven people.

Both vehicles were pushed off the north road edge.

Three of the seven passengers on the Trinity Transit bus were injured, including Joseph Gilbert Jones, 55, of Douglas City, and two minors from Lewiston. They were also transported to Mercy Medical Center to be treated for their injuries.

UPDATE 11:00 p.m.: The CHP says ten people were involved in Tuesday night's crash. Five were injured and one was killed. 

There were three people traveling in the sedan; two were injured, and one was killed. It was not immediately clear who was driving the sedan.

There were seven people on the transit bus, including the driver. Three on the bus were injured.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

UPDATE 8:30 p.m.: The California Highway Patrol reports that one person has died as a result of their injuries from Tuesday night's crash on Highway 299. 

CHP also said traffic was slow-going around the crash site on Hwy 299 near the Moon Lim Lee Rest Area, but the highway was never officially closed.

The California Highway Patrol responded to a major injury crash in Douglas City Tuesday night. 

At 6:32 p.m., CHP learned of a crash involving a transit bus and sedan on Highway 299 just outside of the Moon Lim Lee Rest Area. 

CHP confirms at least two patients were airlifted with injuries to Mercy Medical Center, and there may be up to five injured. It was not immediately clear which patients had major injuries.
