ONO, Calif. - New mandatory and advisory evacuations were issued for the Bully Fire on Monday morning.
Mandatory evacuations are in effect for Big Foot Road from Platina Road to Big Foot Road (Old Bigfoot Rd.) to Sunny Hill Road. Advisory evacuations are in effect for the area east of Wilson Creek to Rainbow Lake Road.
An evacuation center has been set up at Ono Elementary School at 6429 Placer Street in Igo.
The fire has burned 4,700 acres and is 15% contained. CAL FIRE said containment is expected Friday, one week after the fire started.
A total of 35 structures remain threatened, and 1,804 personnel are now fighting the fire, including 93 engines, 59 crews, 30 dozers, 4 air tankers, 8 helicopters, and 19 water tenders.
The fire is burning in the Ono area, southwest of Redding.
The CHP reported Platina Road was closed at Big Foot Road Monday morning just after 7 a.m. after the fire broke the west line.
Investigators said the fire was human-caused. They arrested Freddie Smoke III for starting the fire on his way to deliver fertilizer to an illegal marijuana grow Friday afternoon. He bailed out of the Shasta County Jail Sunday morning.
Smoke is charged with recklessly starting a fire and marijuana cultivation. He is scheduled to be arraigned on August 22.
Significant resources have been added to the fire fight with the addition of engine and crews. Crews will continue to work diligently to hold existing fire lines and expand containment while working in high temperatures and difficult terrain.
The damage assessment teams have identified 8 residential structures and 10 outbuilding destroyed by the fire.
With the current weather conditions and elevated fire danger, they are asking everyone to use extreme caution. For more information on how to prepare for wildfires, go to www.readyforwildfire.org.
