The Bully fire has claimed its first victim. According to CAL FIRE a body was found inside the fire perimeter at a residence north of Platina Road Wednesday.
Officials said that the victim perished during the early hours of the fire on July 11, while trying to flee the oncoming flames.
The Shasta County Coroner's Office said it was an adult male who died due to injuries sustained during the fire. Doctors have been unable to ascertain the age of the victim due to the severity of the burns the man sustained.
An autopsy was completed Thursday but officials were still waiting on the results of the toxicology screening.
Deputies responded to the intersection of Yolla Bolly Road and Platina Road just before 5 p.m. Wednesday where they located the deceased person.
This incident continues to be investigated by CAL FIRE, in conjunction with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office. The cause of death is under investigation.
On July 11, 2014 at approximately 10 p.m. CAL FIRE law enforcement officers arrested Freddie Alexander Smoke III for allegedly recklessly causing a fire and marijuana cultivation, both felonies. Smoke, age 37 of Sacramento, California, was arrested at the origin of the Bully Fire. Smoke was allegedly operating a large rental truck to deliver soil amendments to an illegal marijuana cultivation site.
He bailed out of jail in the early morning hours on Sunday.
