Chico elementary school broken into Sunday night

CHICO, Calif. - Chapman Elementary School in Chico is looking for help locating the burglar, or burglars, who broke in and stole various items Sunday night.

School staff arrived on campus Monday to find four classrooms had windows smashed and were broken into.

Among the items taken were six school laptops which had stickers that read "GEN YES" along with a personal computer, headphones and various other items.

The burglary happened some time overnight Sunday.

Chapman School officials said the items that were taken are expensive to replace but unfortunately it's the students that take the hit.

"Next week we do our online trimester assessments, where the kids actually use the computers," said Christine Bangsund with the school. "And usually the laptop carts have 24 computers in them, and now since we're missing six, you know, there's not enough for a classroom. I think we'll be fine, but now it's really the students that miss out."

Police are working to review surveillance footage in hopes of yielding more clues.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Chico Police Department.
