CHICO, Calif. - Obamacare enrollment help was in full swing in Butte County Saturday at the Faith Lutheran Church.
The goal was to get people signed up in Chico, according to the United Healthcare Workers union. The free enrollment event was set up as a way for customers to get their questions answered. The union has been holding these enrollment fairs throughout California.
Organizers said the Obamacare website was down in the morning but they still managed to get people signed up the old-fashioned way with pen and paper.
One staff member said the help is needed in the Chico area.
"There's a lot of low-income people here that actually could use the insurance. I think this is something that Chico really needs," said staff union rep organizer Lois Jacobs. "They actually need more community involvement from everybody."
The group will head north to Redding March 29 for another stop on the tour.
The deadline to sign-up for health coverage to avoid a tax penalty is March 31.
