LOS MOLINOS, Calif. - Sergeat Kurt Krause has been in the military for 18 years and he spent seven of them as a crew chief for a Black Hawk helicopter with the California National Guard.
The California Guard is assisting CAL FIRE fight the rural Deer Fire.
The fire is 82 percent contained but help from the Black Hawk and Chinook helicopters played a large role.
The choppers helped to shuttle crews to and from the fire area as well as make water drops.
Originally, five Black Hawks were assigned to the Deer Fire, but three were sent to the Rim Fire, burning in part of Yosemite National Park.
