Deputies warn of phone scam

REDDING, Calif. - The Shasta County Sheriff's Office is warning people about phone calls telling people they have an arrest warrant.

Investigators say several people have been contacted by callers posing as deputies. The callers said the victims had outstanding warrants and could be arrested if they didn't pay a fine by purchasing a Green Dot Card from Rite Aid.

The suspects identified themselves as Captain Truitt and Lt. Carl Jones of the Shasta County Sheriff's Office. Nobody by either name actually works for the office.

Anyone who has been targeted by this scam is asked to contact the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.
