The Eiler Fire was burning five miles southeast of Burney as of Saturday night. The fire is burning from west to north leaving the town directly in the path of the fire.
Firefighters have brought in more than 10 bull-dozers to create a fire line between the fire and the town of Burney. Officials on the scene said if the line does not hold, they may have to evacuate the town.
At least four structures were destroyed by the fire today.
Firefighters are dedicating all available assets towards the fire in an attempt to contain the blaze.
"The fire is moving quickly. Residents of these areas must take these preparatory advisements for evacuation seriously. Persons with disabilities, or others, may wish to evacuate voluntarily in advance," said the Shasta County Sheriff's Office in a press release.
Sheriff Tom Bosenko will present a request for local emergency declaration ratification by the Shasta County Board of Supervisors on or before Tuesday, August 5, 2014.
