Driver pinned in crashed truck, arrested for DUI

DURHAM, Calif. - A Paradise man was arrested for DUI after crashing his truck Sunday night in Butte County.

The CHP said they arrested 46-year-old Romie Buanno then sent him to the hospital for treatment of major injuries.

The collision was reported just before 8 p.m. Sunday in the Durham area on Durham Dayton Highway just east of Oro Chico Highway.

The CHP said a man was headed eastbound on Durham Dayton Highway in a 2003 Ford pickup at a high rate of speed.  In a news release, investigators said due to his high level of intoxication, Buanno allowed the truck to run onto the shoulder and go into a ditch, hitting several trees of Esquon Road.  The vehicle came to rest pinned against a tree.

Buanno was trapped inside the vehicle.

It took more than an hour and 20 minutes to get him out of the crashed vehicle.

Buanno was arrested for DUI then sent to Enloe Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
