REDDING, Calif. - The fire was first reported a little after 7:30 p.m. Sunday night.
According to Redding Fire officials approximately 3 acres burned in the area of the McConnell Foundation trails off Palacio Drive in Redding.
There were hikers on the trail at the time, but no one was hurt.
Redding Fire Battalion Chief Steve Reilly said this is the second time a blaze has broken out in the general area in the last week or so.
Reilly said with the hot, dry weather it's important for hikers to be aware of their surroundings.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
Crews are expected to be out on the scene mopping up for the majority of the evening.
