REDDING, Calif. - A pregnant Redding woman gave premature birth to a baby Thursday morning after she was robbed and assaulted near the Sundial Bridge Wednesday night.
18 year old Nicole Vultaggio gave birth to Edan Lee Dale Vultaggio at 5:12 Thursday morning. He weighed in at six pounds, five ounces and 19 inches long.
Edan's grandpa, Roger, told us the baby and mom, are still in the hospital but are doing just fine.
Vultaggio of Redding was walking with 29-year-old Erica Swann of Anderson on the Sundial Bridge about 10:45 Wednesday night when two suspects attacked the then 8 month pregnant Vultaggio.
Reports say two male suspects punched Vultaggio in the face, choked her, and kicked her in the stomach after she fell to the ground.
The suspects then grabbed purses from both women and ran away.
Vultaggio was transported to Mercy Medical Center.
Roger told us the assault and robbery were random acts and that his daughter did not know the suspects.
The suspects' descriptions are limited. Investigators would only say they are two white males, standing between 6' and 6'2''. They were wearing dark clothes and gloves.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Redding Police Department at (530) 225-4214 or Shasta County Secret Witness at (530) 243-2319.
