Fund Created to Support Family of Murdered Mother

The community of Alturas is rallying to help the family of the mother murdered in Alturas on Thursday.

According to Alturas Police 51 year-old Marilyn Sims was murdered by her husband, 53 year-old Jim Sims III.

Police responded Thursday afternoon to a report of two people shot at a home in the 1200 block of West 9th Street in Alturas.

Officers arrived around 5:45 p.m. and saw Jim leaving the residence in his car.

Police followed Sims to a church parking lot in the 800 block of West Carlos Street.  Sims got out of his car and shot himself.  He was taken to Modoc Medical Center, then flown to Mercy Medical Center in Redding where he later died.

Marilyn was found shot inside the home and died at Modoc Medical Center.

Marilyn's  14-year-old son was shot in the shoulder area as well and was taken to Modoc Medical Center.

Wendy Baird and several other members of the Alturas community said it's important to honor Marilyn's memory and help the family.

Baird is making bracelets to remember Marilyn, who was a longtime worker at Modoc Medical Center.

There are two styles of bracelets people can purchase.

One says "Always Remember" and another says "Peace and Innocence and No More Violence."

All proceeds from the sale of the bracelets will benefit Marilyn's family.
