REDDING, Calif. - A Shasta County man has been sentenced to nearly 500 years in prison for molesting a young brother and sister.
John Molea was sentenced in a Redding courtroom Monday. Molea was sentenced to 6 years plus 475 years to life after he was convicted in May.
Molea met the children in 2011 after moving to Happy Valley and becoming active in their church.
The jury convicted Molea on seven counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14, and one count of failing to register as a sex offender. The jury also found true the special allegation for having multiple victims in the case and the special allegation that he had two prior convictions for molestation.
Investigators said the molestations happened over a three month period from August 2011 to October 2011.
Molea has previous convictions of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14. He was required to register as a sex offender. Molea failed to update his registry when he moved to Happy Valley. He had been convicted in 2004 for molesting his step-son and a young girl who lived in his neighborhood.
