Hundreds gather to support Team Ellery

CHICO, Calif. - Hundreds came together Friday night to support a Chico teen battling ovarian cancer.

Ellery Stilwell is a 17-year-old senior in high school and plays volleyball for a club team in Chico. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last November and had a full hysterectomy in December.

The fundraiser for Team Ellery on Friday started at 7 p.m. It was held at the El Rey Theatre in Chico where supporters were helping the teen raise awareness for the disease. Ellery and the volleyball community in Chico created Team Ellery to teach young girls to pay attention to their bodies and learn how to detect early symptoms.

Supporters watched a double feature including a volleyball documentary and the movie Pitch Perfect. During intermission, Olympic volleyball player Courtney Thompson made a special video message that aired as a surprise for the teen.

All proceeds from the event went to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance. For more information on how you can help or learn more about Team Ellery, you can visit her Facebook page:
