Investigators: late night Anderson fire arson

ANDERSON, Calif. - CAL FIRE investigators said a fire that broke out off Highway 273 in Anderson was arson.

Officials said the blaze at the abandoned home at 6574 on Highway 273 was reported by a passerby around 11:45 p.m.

The home is just south of the Jolly Green Giant.

Investigators said the blaze was ignited in four spots.

No one is believed to live in the abandoned building but there's evidence people frequented it.

However there's little evidence as to how the fire started.

"Usually in the area we're seeing more wild land fires or vegetation fires. To have an abandoned structure set on fire is unusual for that area," said CAL FIRE Captain Darren Stewart.

There are no witnesses and Stewart said people who live in the area have been contacted but CAL FIRE is still looking for answers.

If you believe you have information you're asked to contact CAL FIRE investigation at 225-2421.
