OROVILLE, Calif. - An Oroville man was arrested, suspected of stealing more than 1,000 pills from a local pharmacy. Police said he stole the medication over a two week period while working as a janitor.
Danial Harp, 42, was arrested by drug agents Tuesday around 7 p.m. at the pharmacy at 2809 Olive Highway. The investigation started when staff at Crystal Pharmacy reported the theft of more than 1,000 pills. The pills were prescriptions that had been filled and labeled for customer pick-up.
Officers obtained video surveillance which showed the suspect taking the pills while working as a janitor for Oroville Medical Center.
The investigation was turned over to the Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force who worked closely with staff at Oroville Medical Center. Police said Harp was arrested after committing another theft. He was found in possession of the stolen prescription medication.
Police said video evidence showed Harp committing three separate thefts while conducting janitorial duties inside the pharmacy over a four day period. BINTF agents had a search warrant for Harp's residence and responded there after his arrest.
Additional stolen narcotic medications were located during the service of the search warrant by BINTF. Harp was later booked into the Butte County Jail on three counts of grand theft, possession of stolen property and possession of specified controlled substances.
BINTF'S investigation is on-going and it is believed Harp may have completed additional thefts of narcotic medications over the past six months.
