K-9 Deputy Helps Seize Nearly One-Hundred Pounds of Marijuana

WEAVERVILLE, Calif. - A Trinity County K-9 Deputy has proven himself to be a key member of the team after being on patrol for only two months.

2-year-old K-9 Deputy Johnny has seized over one-hundred and twenty eight thousand dollars in cash and nearly one-hundred pounds of processed marijuana.

His most recent marijuana bust happened last Wednesday around midnight. Deputies pulled over a vehicle on Highway 299 in Weaverville for a traffic violation.

When Johnny approached the vehicle, he alerted his handler and signaled him with probable cause to search the car. In the trunk deputies found twenty-seven pounds of processed marijuana and over one-thousand dollars in cash.

18-year old Nicholas Berger of Cedar Falls, Iowa and 19-year-old Zachery Luken of Iowa City, Iowa were arrested and booked into Trinity County Jail.
