11-Year-Old Boy Goes Airborne in a Bounce House
An 11-year-old boy was inside of a bounce house in Chico on when the wind suddenly lifted the bounce house 15 feet in the air.
It landed three homes away on a neighbor's roof.
August Hutsell, 11, was having fun at a birthday party in Chico Saturday afternoon, when the wind suddenly picked up.
“And the kid inside the bounce house on top of the roof and the rest had fallen right there,” said Dr. Karen Escott who lives across the street.
Escott couldn't believe her eyes as she saw the boy on top of her neighbor's home and inside the now deflated bounce house.
“Jump up there, we got to get the kid out and so I went in to get a knife, so I got it and I handed to the guy,” said Escott.
August and his father Denny Hutsell were at a friend's house on Delaney Lane on Chico's Southeast side, enjoying a birthday celebration.
The bounce house was in the backyard. August was playing in the bounce house when suddenly the winds got out of control.
“The wind was really intense. Everyone started rushing out of the house for some reason in a panic and I didn't know what was going on,” said Denny Hutsell.
The winds then lifted the bounce house with August still inside without his parents knowing.
“I really didn't know it was him at all,” said Denny Hutsell.
“I just thought it was crazy. It thought the kid should have been dead. It was a loud bang that if he would have hit the roof at any other angle, I don't think it would have been a minor thing,” said Escott.
August was cut out of the bounce house surprisingly unscathed. His dad said he was a little shaken up but he says it won't stop him from enjoying bounce houses in the future.
“This is not enough to scare him, no,” said Denny Hutsell.
Denny says august walked away with just a sprained left ankle but said he's doing just fine.
