RED BLUFF, Calif. -

An apparent gang-related shooting overnight in Red Bluff has some members of the community shaken up.

It happened around 11 p.m. on Wednesday at Park and Duncan Avenues.

Officers said they only found out about this shooting because the hospital notified them. Several people did call and reported hearing gunshots, but when they got to the scene nobody was there.

Nettie Estess said she's worried about the Red Bluff community.

"You read about it somewhere else and you wonder what those poor people are doing but when it happened right in front of your yard, then you think, hey that's a little close to home," Estess said.

Estess has lived in Red Bluff for 40 years. She said she has never expected something like a shooting to happen in her neighborhood.

"We were watching TV and talking and all of a sudden we hear these gunshots. It was so close I thought it was just right outside my door," Estess said.

Red Bluff police officers said a man was walking with a friend on Park Ave. near Duncan Ave.

The man told police a light colored sedan pulled up and a Hispanic man got out and started fighting with them. When they tried to run, the victim said the man pulled out a gun and fired, shooting the victim in the thigh.

Estess said she enjoys living in Red Bluff but is worried it's just going to keep going downhill.

"These gangs are messing it up. They're just coming in here and tearing the town apart," Estess said.

Officers said the victim was treated and then released from Saint Elizabeth's Hospital.

They told us the suspect is unknown at this time, partially because the victim is not being cooperative.
