A Chico man appeared in court Wednesday morning to be charged with the murder of his mother.
The arraignment was continued Wednesday after the defendant's initial court appearance last week. Adam Jacob, 29, of Chico, was charged with murder. He's accused of killing his mother who was found dead inside her Chico home.
Deputies found the body of Donna Teifer, 56, while conducting a welfare check on Tuesday, September 25. Co-workers became concerned after Teifer didn't show up for work.
When investigators arrived at Teifer's home at 105 Hampshire Drive, the door was unlocked. Detectives learned that Teifer recently had a heated exchange of words with her son. Detectives contacted Jacob at a nearby residence and he arrested later that day.
Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said Teifer was stabbed 20 times in her neck and face.
Ramsey says there was an argument between the mother and son over the custody of Jacob's two-year-old child. Ramsey also said Jacob had mental problems.
Adam Jacob is held at the Butte County Jail on one million twenty-five thousand dollars bail. He will appear in court again in two weeks.
