The City of Chico is one step closer to a ban on single-use plastic bags.
Wednesday night the council asked the city attorney to draft new language that would not only ban plastic bags, but would impose a ten cent fee for paper bags.
The ordinance would apply to large grocery stores with annual sales of at least two million dollars per year.
There would be a one-year grace period to allow customers to adjust.
The council must still give its final approval once the updated language is drafted.
