Following five alcohol-related deaths of students this past semester from a number of different schools, Chico State University President Paul Zingg is calling for a change.
Zingg confirmed that he and his administration will be holding meetings next week with city leaders and local bar owners on how to reduce the amount of alcohol consumed by students.
Zingg said that the idea is not to ban alcohol, but simply monitor it.
Chico State will begin by holding a summit meeting with students, teachers, parents and community leaders.
"We will discuss the alcohol issues and other related issues that are causing these young deaths and we will also discuss how to fix this," Chico State Public Director Joe Wills said.
No official dates have been set for the meetings.
