CHICO, Calif. -

Proposition 30 passed on Tues. night with almost 54 percent of the vote a ballot. The proposition is saving Chico State students from paying an additional $150 per semester--but charging California taxpayers.

There was a mixed reaction to the election results at Chico State.

"Yeah, I voted for it and hope it gets me the classes that I needed and the education that I want," Chico State junior, Willis Baker said.

Meanwhile, Chico State senior Carly Kinsman said that with tuition rising almost annually, she did not think the proposition "would have made a difference."

The proposition will increase sales tax from 7.5 percent to 7.75 percent and increase income tax for taxpayers who make over $250,000 per year.
