CHICO, Calif. -

A Chico woman and her family were in the eye of Hurricane Sandy--and on a cruise ship.

Ladonna Joyner and her family, including her two grandchildren were nearing the end of a 7-day Caribbean cruise on Disney's newest cruise liner when the hurricane hit.

On Friday night, Joyner said that the ship's captain warned the 4,000 passengers that they were heading into a storm -- Hurricane Sandy.

"Normally, the captain doesn't come into your room and talk," Joyner said. "But he was coming into every room. The winds were hitting 60 to 75 miles per hour with gusts up to 90 miles per hour. And the waves were 40 to 50 feet.

For a brief moment, Joyner said she feared for her life, saying that her husband and her actually got out of bed a few times on Friday night to put on life jackets.

Now, when Joyner looks back at videos that passengers later posted to YouTube, she finds the experience more exhilarating than terrifying.

"Actually, experiencing a hurricane was on my bucket-list," Joyner said. "It was an adventure. It was a cruise I'll never forget."

Joyner said that her biggest disappointment was missing a stop in the Bahamas because of the storm.

To compensate however, Disney said it will provide a 25 percent discount for future trips over the next two years and the Joyner family cruises once a year.
