RED BLUFF, Calif. -

On Thursday Tehama County deputies found what appeared to be a bomb dumped in a pile of household hazardous waste in Red Bluff.

Deputies said someone found the device near Kaer Ave. and Royal Ln. just before 7:00 p.m. The device was constructed with a road flare, wires, a radio antenna, a mechanical timer, and a power source.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded to the incident and detonated the device. After their investigation, they determined that the device was a hoax and was not capable of actually exploding.

Officials are asking anyone with information regarding who may have dumped the device to contact the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office.
