Deputies: Woman Threatened to Kill 3-Year-Old Son

Woman Arrested on Child Cruelty Charges
SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. -

A woman was arrested Sunday and charged with felony child cruelty after deputies say she threatened to kill her 3-year-old son.

It happened at a home on Sylvia Lane, just off Airport Road, at around 1:30 p.m.

According to deputies, Misty Dorman, 31, was armed with a handgun, and threatened to kill the child when law enforcement arrived.

When the first deputy arrived on the scene, investigators say he found Dorman holding a landscaping tool to the child's throat. He was able to grab Dorman, while her ex-boyfriend grabbed the tool and the child.

Deputies tell us a fight then ensued between Dorman and the deputy, that continued until back-up arrived.

Dorman was eventually subdued and arrested.

In addition to the cruelty charge, she's also facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon and obstructing or delaying a peace officer.
