Federal Judge Rules Anselmo Case Not to Go to Federal Court
A federal judge denied Shasta County's request to prevent the opening of restauranteur Reverge Anselmo's $1.7 million event center at Anselmo Vineyards – at least for now.
The judge ruled that it was not in his jurisdiction to decide the fate of the event center and the case is going back to the Shasta County Superior Court.
The county will presumably refile its case there, but at until a ruling comes, the event center will be open for a wedding this weekend, as well as 17 other weddings on the schedule.
Shasta County contends that Anselmo's event center does not have the proper building permits. He claims he waited 60 days after applying to build, and the law dictates that if there is no response, the permits are deemed valid.
The county said that many of the issues have been remanded to Shasta County because "Mr. Anselmo [is] continuing to construct entertainment and restaurant facilities without necessary public safety and health permits and inspections."
Anselmo said in an interview that the county is getting "more desperate" all of the time.
