Flooding on Highway 99 Slows Traffic

COHASSET, Calif. -

Saturday night’s storm has led to flooding and slowed traffic on Highway 99 Sunday morning.

Around 8:30 a.m. CALFIRE said that they responded to a phone call about flooding on Highway 99. When they responded to the call, they found no flooding but at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, they returned to find extensive flooding between Fire Station 41 by Keefer Rd. and Meridian Rd. in the Cohasset area.

CALFIRE said that water from the Cohasset area came down the hill and was held on Highway 99 where a nearby water retention basin had overflooded.

Initially, Caltrans and California Highway Patrol had closed the highway down but they decided to reopen the road and have traffic guided by a Caltrans official who would guide cars through the puddle.

Caltrans representatives said that they cannot pump the water out of the highway because there would be no place to put it. They said that at this point, they are waiting for the water to clear out naturally.
