SHINGLETOWN, Calif. -

Two men and one unknown suspect tried robbing a home in Shingletown when the plan backfired.

On Dec. 31, Justin Stewart, Michael Reece and an unknown suspect conspired to rob Reece's uncle at his Shingletown home.

Stewart was the get-away car driver as Reece and the unknown suspect entered the home.

The two tried stealing money and jewelery, held two victims at gunpoint and shoved the barrel of a pistol into one of the victim's mouth, threatening to kill him.

Little did the robbers know, there was a third person in the home.

The unidentified third party heard the robbery, loaded his shotgun and ran outside to Stewart, who was waiting in the car.

He pulled Stewart out of the car and forced him inside where Stewart was tied to a chair for nearly five hours.

Stewart was beaten with a baseball bat and his hair was singed off by a blow torch as the other suspects fled from the home.

Stewart was released but later arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Michael Reece or the unknown suspect is asked to contact the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.

According to Shasta County Jail records, Reece and Stewart have both had prior arrests. Stewart had previously been arrested for corporal injury of spouse and Reece has previously been arrested for several alcohol-related charges including DUI and being under the influence of controlled substances.
