REDDING, Calif. -

Twinkies have been a snack staple for Americans for more than half a century, but that could be coming to an end.

The Hostess Company is closing its doors and Twinkies and Ho-Hos could be no more.

Local Hostess thrift shops aren’t immune to the closings, and the Hostess thrift shop on Hartnell Ave. in Redding is closing its doors next Tues.

Die-hard Hostess fans are snapping up their favorite treats, as well as bargain priced breads.

“I guess I’m gonna have to switch to the less expensive Little Debbies,”  said Peter Fischer, a long-time customer. “It’s a tough switch though, it doesn't taste the same.”

Unfortunately for those in need of a cheap sugar fix, the Hostess thrift store in Redding is wiped pretty clean already.  And the Twinkies were the first to go.
