Investigation Follows Death of 19-Month-Old Baby
The death of an Oroville toddler has sparked an investigation as to whether neglect was involved.
Around 2 p.m. on Friday, Oroville Police received a call that there was an unresponsive 19-month-old baby on the 1200 block of Fourth Ave.
When paramedics arrived, they found the child, Elizabeth, face-down in her crib. They estimated that she had been dead for six hours.
The babysitter who was supposed to be watching her, Robert Wright, 31, initially said he had checked on Elizabeth, but later admitted that he did not check on her.
Wright was arrested for some outstanding drug warrants.
Elizabeth’s mother, Amanda Easton, 22, was not home at the time of the death. Easton has another child, a 3-year-old, who has since been taken into protective custody by Child Protective Services.
Police said that they will have to wait for pathology tests to confirm it, but they said they found some signs of extreme neglect in the home.
