REDDING, Calif. -

A fully intact human skull was found near the Locust Street Bridge Monday afternoon.

Redding Police Investigator, Greg Wilkes said the skull was found by correctional crews that were clearing brush adjacent to the Fish and Game building at 601 Locust.

Wilkes says he'll be keeping folks away from the crime scene until about midnight. "Another officer will remain on scene until forensic crews arrive Tuesday morning," said Wilkes.

Officers cordoned off the area with three separate pieces of crime tape. The tape spans about 100 yards towards Cypress. One piece is attached to the bridge.

Officer Wilkes says the area is frequented by transients.

There is trashed scattered about 50 yards from the crime scene and what appears to be a homeless camp.
